Window coverings are an important part of southwest décor. If possible, deciding to leave the windows uncovered so that the outside view flows inward to warm the room, would be a wonderful choice. If privacy is an issue, draperies would be the best choice. Draperies made from southwestern pattern fabric may be used. Mexican blankets make great window treatments. Wrought iron rods lend a touch of rustic charm and work well in a southwest room.
We no longer live in houses with parlours and drawing rooms, but one room that has remained popular is the one for dining. Many of us have a room for dining, and even smaller houses that are more modest have at least a dining space. There has been an increase in popularity of the kitchen diner, and whilst this may not be as grand a place to eat as a dining room, it still contains the basic dining room furniture. It doesn’t matter where it is you dine; you still need a chair to sit on and a table to rest your plate of food on.
The right dining room furniture arrangement is one that flows well for all meals; big, small, fancy or casual. Although a large dining table will sit as many guests as the kitchen can feed, they don’t always fit the room they will be eating in. There’s nothing more stifling to a conversation then feeling cramped into a small space. When you consider the style of table you want for your dining area, getting one that expands is a great option. Use the smaller table for everyday meals and put in the table leafs when entertaining guests. Perfect for holidays when the amount of food often out numbers the mouths to eat it. Removable leaf sections for your table will give you the additional space whenever the meal calls for it. Just make sure you have a variety of table cloths to fit all of your table sizes.
Surround yourself with the things you love to create a fun and relaxing feeling. Display special pieces you have acquired throughout your years of travel. Or maybe you have found pottery predominant of the southwest or figurines of saints at flea markets. Consider displaying them in your hutch or sideboard. Small pieces may be used as center pieces on your table. If you switch your accessories around often, each piece will get the attention it deserves. Placemats and table runners will add a soft colorful touch to your dining table.
